Express Your Interest in a Summer Volleyball League in Lumby!

If you think that having a summer volleyball league in Lumby is a good idea, we want to hear from you! The Whitevalley Community Resource Centre is hoping to create an outdoor volleyball league for youth ages 12-20 (one league ages 12-15, and another ages 16-20).

The time has come to make use of the great facilities Lumby has to offer. Many people complain that there is little to do in Lumby in the summer months. However, maybe this is because the things that Lumby does have to offer are forgotten about and not used. What better way to have fun then to get together with your friends for some fun games of volleyball! This is an excellent way to get a sun tan, exercise, and hang out with friends all at the same time.

If you are interested in joining the first ever summer volleyball league in Lumby, simply call the Whitevalley Community Resource Centre at 547-8866 to register. This great volleyball action is free of charge! Register as a team or individually. The more people who sign up the better, as the league will only set forth should enough people show interest. So tell your friends, classmates, neighbours, and let’s make this work!

Community Pride

Community Pride provides up to 40 hours of paid employment for participating youth ages 15-29. Whitevalley Community Resource Centre then connects the youth to local organizations. This project provides youth with valuable work experience, gives them a chance to build interpersonal skills and confidence, opportunity to expand their resumes, and free courses such as WCB Level 1, Food Safe and Superhost as well as resume writing, interview skills, and job search skills may be available. Right now we are eagerly looking for any clubs, organizations or committees who would like to be a mentor for a local youth, in exchange for a little help with their endeavors.

Past Community Pride Projects

Good Ticket

'Good Tickets' are handed out to young people demonstrating positive behavior by members of the Lumby RCMP detachment and staff of the Village of Lumby Public Works department as part of the Good Ticket Initiative. This provides opportunities for positive interaction, reinforcement and encouragement of good behavior. The tickets can be redeemed for free snacks or activities, courtesy of participating local merchants and agencies. If you see a youth in the community “doing something good”, please let WCRC know! It’s time we start recognizing the good our young adults bring to our community.

Youth Action Committee

The Youth Action Committee (YAC) Is a great group of community members who are interested in staying connected to Lumby’s youth by meeting once a month and discussing youth focused projects, events and forms of support. The goal of our group is to network our ideas, strengths and abilities to benefit the youth in ways that promote positive and healthy relationships between all ages. Often YAC breaks up into smaller sub-committees when we are focusing on a particular event or participating in a community project. Our sub-committees then bring information and ideas to the entire group and we get to be involved in group decisions.

Aside from taking initiatives for youth, we also act as advocates. Youth can get lost in the shuffle and sometimes their voices are difficult to hear. YAC acts as a group who will support and guide them in their various pursuits

We are eager to support these youth in their efforts to become contributing community members, but often find ourselves short a few willing members. If you also see the benefits in being a part of a committee that helps sustain positive development and opportunities for youth, please call WCRC. YAC meets every second or third Wednesday of each month, September through June from 3:00-4:30. We look forward to your participation and interest in supporting our younger community members!
